The Navajo Origin Legend
This short story reminded me of the creation story of Adam and Eve. I did think this was a confusing story in the begging. The whole part with all the corn and he colors. It really had me all confused. I had no idea what was going on at all. But then it sort of all fell in place. But there is no way i could have expected that to be the final outcome or creating a male and a female. In the begging i thought it was going to be a story about how Indians farmed or something. Didn't think it would turn into the creation story of the first male and female human being.
When Grizzlies Walked Upright
I thought that this was a very good story. I liked the way the author had made the connection with why bears walk on all fours. I know that an indian obviously told him the story but i really liked the way it all fell into place. I did think that a few parts were a little confusing so i went back and read it and understood it. I also thought that this story was a lot like others stories that i have heard. Like the story when then boy is raised by a pack of wolves or the story when the boy was raised by sharks. I also didn't know that that was the reason why Indians don't kill the grizzly bears. I thought that it was also strange that the daughter and grizzly bear had kids.

The Earth on Turtle's Back
I thought this was an interesting story. I liked the way the author made the story by using stories that have probably been passed down for a long time. I also liked that the author made it like on the shells of turtles all of the markings are from the tiny muskrat. I didn't really understand the whole searching for earth part. I didn't really get why they had to go so far underwater to find the earth. Another thing that i liked was at the end of the story when it says that she spread the seeds on earth and that the trees and grass sprang up. I could really picture this happing in the story for some reason. I also liked the determination of the tiny muskrat that swam and found earth. No one would have thought that the muskrat would have found it.
Journey of the First Voyage to America
I thought that the journal entry from Christopher Columbus was actually very interesting. I like the way he went into detail about everything he wrote. I also noticed that he only mentions all the good things about the island and not some of the bad things. It was interesting to read about all of the things that he found that are now everyday items to us today. I also liked reading all of the animals that he saw. Columbus really explained in great detail about what the animals all looked like. I could really get a good image of what they looked like just from reading it. It was also cool to read about all of the things that the Native Americans had created. Columbus doesn't really talk to much about them though.
